Naropin (ropivacaine HCI)
Additional information on the long-lasting regional anaesthetic, Naropin. [1]
Introduction to Loco-Regional Anaesthesia
Local or regional anaesthesia may be used for surgical procedures, for relief of acute or chronic pain, and for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes.
Surgical Anaesthesia
Ropivacaine provides effective and well-tolerated anaesthesia for surgery. The anaesthetic effects are dose dependent, which means that the degree of sensory and motor block achieved with the drug is predictable [1]. Furthermore, ropivacaine may be given at higher doses than bupivacaine to provide reliable and long-lasting anaesthesia, with less risk of systemic toxicity [1]
Acute Pain Management
Epidural ropivacaine 2.0 mg/ml, infused at a rate of 6 to 14 ml/h, provides reliable postoperative pain relief, with minimal non-progressive motor block and a reduced need for morphine analgesia.
